Do you ever doubt God’s timing
in your life? I know I do. There are days I wonder
if this was really just the right time for my car to
break down, or my washing machine to go out. On the
other hand, I think it is always good timing when I
receive good news. When I fully understand and trust
the work of God, I won’t doubt the timing of
anything that happens in my life.
Romans 5:6 says, You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless,
Christ died for the ungodly. Of course this verse focuses on the complete
act of grace that is our salvation. Anything less than sinful or less than powerless
to overcome sin that you recognize in yourself is a result of the work of Christ.
We were doomed to a life of sin when Christ died for us. That in itself is a
wonderful spiritual thought. What spoke to me even more from this scripture was
the phrase at just the right time.
There is a right time in God’s perspective of time. Ephesians 2:10 makes
this bold reality about God’s timing: For we are God’s workmanship,
created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us
to do. Somehow God has the timing of our lives all figured out. Think on
that a while and it will totally blow your mind. God prepared all kinds of good
works in advance for me to do. Do you fully comprehend how impossible that is
for any being other than God? How do you prepare in advance for stubborn, clueless
people? I haven’t figured that part out yet; I just entrust myself to the
mystery. Knowing that God has planned just the right time for Jesus to die on
the cross, it helps me realize that He has just the right time in my life too.
It’s not for me to question God’s timing, rather to move forward
into it even when it absolutely makes no sense to me. Jesus never questioned
God’s timing. He simply followed it as it unfolded. He doesn’t even
know the time that He will return to the earth; only God does. And that is perfectly
fine with Him. That’s how I want to be. I want to enter the dance of my
life with God here on earth and do every good work He prepared in advance for
me. I know that I will miss out on dancing with Him if I sit around questioning
His timing.
Time is an interesting commodity. Five minutes can seem like an hour when you
are waiting for the nurse to call you back for your appointment. An hour can
seem like an eternity when you have a toothache. But, if you are in my situation
today, eighteen years can seem like merely one when your daughter is preparing
to leave for college in a few weeks.
I’ve seen God multiply my time. When I stop to spend time with Him, in
spite of the fact that I have a busy morning deadline to make, sometimes what
feels like an hour was only five minutes. He can do things like that.
I need to remember that God has time all figured out and that I am the one who
is confused when I think this isn’t the time. If we make time for His work
and His priorities for our lives, He will show us that this is the right time
for our car to break down. Perhaps what He wants is for us to trust Him with
the outcome and believe that He can grow our faith. Start considering God’s
perfect timing in your life and enter the dance that your life was prepared in
advance to be.
