At Just the Right Time

Do you ever doubt God’s timing in your life? I know I do. There are days I wonder if this was really just the right time for my car to break down, or my washing machine to go out. On the other hand, I think it is always good timing when I receive good news. When I fully understand and trust the work of God, I won’t doubt the timing of anything that happens in my life.

Romans 5:6 says, You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless,Christ died for the ungodly. Of course this verse focuses on the completeact of grace that is our salvation. Anything less than sinful or less than powerlessto overcome sin that you recognize in yourself is a result of the work of Christ. We were doomed to a life of sin when Christ died for us. That in itself is awonderful spiritual thought. What spoke to me even more from this scripture wasthe phrase at just the right time.

There is a right time in God’s perspective of time. Ephesians 2:10 makesthis bold reality about God’s timing: For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for usto do. Somehow God has the timing of our lives all figured out. Think onthat a while and it will totally blow your mind. God prepared all kinds of goodworks in advance for me to do. Do you fully comprehend how impossible that isfor any being other than God? How do you prepare in advance for stubborn, cluelesspeople? I haven’t figured that part out yet; I just entrust myself to themystery. Knowing that God has planned just the right time for Jesus to die onthe cross, it helps me realize that He has just the right time in my life too. It’s not for me to question God’s timing, rather to move forwardinto it even when it absolutely makes no sense to me. Jesus never questionedGod’s timing. He simply followed it as it unfolded. He doesn’t evenknow the time that He will return to the earth; only God does. And that is perfectlyfine with Him. That’s how I want to be. I want to enter the dance of mylife with God here on earth and do every good work He prepared in advance forme. I know that I will miss out on dancing with Him if I sit around questioningHis timing.

Time is an interesting commodity. Five minutes can seem like an hour when youare waiting for the nurse to call you back for your appointment. An hour canseem like an eternity when you have a toothache. But, if you are in my situationtoday, eighteen years can seem like merely one when your daughter is preparingto leave for college in a few weeks.

I’ve seen God multiply my time. When I stop to spend time with Him, inspite of the fact that I have a busy morning deadline to make, sometimes whatfeels like an hour was only five minutes. He can do things like that.

I need to remember that God has time all figured out and that I am the one whois confused when I think this isn’t the time. If we make time for His workand His priorities for our lives, He will show us that this is the right timefor our car to break down. Perhaps what He wants is for us to trust Him withthe outcome and believe that He can grow our faith. Start considering God’sperfect timing in your life and enter the dance that your life was prepared inadvance to be.
